Drayage and Port Services

Off the terminal, out of customs, and on its way.

Drayage is the short move that connects ocean freight to everything that happens next. It is also the leg where delays cost the most, because containers sitting past their free time accrue charges every single day. AJE Freight Solutions pulls your containers on time, from every major port in the country.

What Is Drayage Service?

Drayage is the transport of an ocean container between a marine terminal or rail ramp and its next stop, usually a warehouse, distribution center, or transload facility. The distance is often short, sometimes under 50 miles, but the timing is unforgiving.

Marine terminals allow only a few days of free time before demurrage begins, and the steamship line charges per diem until the empty container is returned. Missing either window turns a routine move into a four-figure invoice.

Doing it well takes port access more than mileage: securing terminal appointments, tracking vessel discharge and customs release, managing chassis availability, and returning equipment before the clock runs out.

  1. Share your container details. Send us the container and booking numbers, steamship line, terminal or rail ramp, delivery address, and your last free day. Tell us if the container is refrigerated, overweight, or hazardous so we assign the right equipment from the start.
  2. We monitor availability. We track vessel discharge, customs clearance, and line release so we know the moment your container is available to pull, rather than finding out after free time has already started burning.
  3. Appointment secured. We book the terminal appointment and dispatch a driver with the correct chassis. Appointment slots at major ports fill quickly, which is why we watch for them rather than wait for one to open.
  4. Pickup and transit. The container moves from the terminal to your facility, transload warehouse, or storage yard, with a live tracking link and status updates the entire way.
  5. Unload or drop and hook. Unload the container live while the driver waits, or have us spot it at your dock and return for it later, so you unload on your schedule instead of paying detention.
  6. Empty return and paperwork. We return the empty container to the terminal before per diem accrues, then send you proof of delivery and confirmation of the return.

Beyond the port

Drayage is rarely the whole job. We handle what comes before and after it, so your freight moves under one point of contact instead of three.

Customs clearance

We coordinate the entry and release of your freight so your container is cleared and ready the moment it is available to pull. Nothing gets dispatched before release, and we track that status for you rather than leaving you to chase it.

Warehousing and transload

Store your freight near the port until you are ready for it, or transload the contents of an ocean container into a domestic 53-foot trailer. Transloading fits more freight into fewer trailers and stops per diem from running on the container.

Delivery to any city in the USA

Once your freight is off the port, we move it anywhere in the country by full truckload or LTL, on the same bill. One container, one point of contact, from the terminal gate to the final door.
