Specialized Freight Services

For the freight that doesn’t fit the standard playbook.

Most shipments move dock to dock on a dry van and nobody thinks twice about it. Then there’s everything else: the delivery with no loading dock, the crate that’s twelve feet wide, the equipment that has to be set in place rather than left at the curb. AJE Freight Solutions arranges the equipment, permits, and handling that those shipments actually require.

What Is Specialized Freight Service?

Specialized freight is any shipment that needs equipment, handling, or access beyond a standard trailer and a forklift on both ends. That covers a wide range: oversized loads that need permits and escorts, deliveries to locations without a dock, freight that has to go inside a building, and commodities with handling requirements of their own.

What these shipments have in common is that the details determine whether the delivery succeeds. A truck that shows up without a liftgate at a residence isn’t a minor inconvenience, it’s a failed delivery, a redelivery fee, and a day lost. Getting the requirements right before dispatch is most of the job.

Tell us the constraints when you request a quote, including anything you’re unsure about, and we’ll match the shipment to equipment that can actually complete it.

How It Works

  1. Describe the shipment and the constraints. Tell us the commodity, weight, and dimensions, plus what makes it non-standard: no dock at pickup or delivery, oversized measurements, a residential address, a job site, stairs, or a receiver with restricted hours.
  2. We confirm the requirements. We work out what the shipment actually needs, whether that’s a liftgate, a smaller truck that can access the street, permits and escorts, or a white glove crew. If a site survey or a call with the receiver is warranted, we make it before quoting.
  3. Receive a quote. Specialized services are priced with the accessorials included and stated plainly, so a liftgate or inside delivery isn’t a surprise line item weeks later.
  4. We assign the right equipment and crew. We match the load to a carrier with the correct equipment, the required permits, and experience with this kind of delivery. Specialized freight is not the place for a carrier learning on your shipment.
  5. Coordinated pickup and delivery. Appointments are scheduled, the receiver is notified, and the driver arrives prepared for the site conditions. You receive a live tracking link and status updates the entire way.
  6. Delivery and paperwork. The freight is delivered and placed as agreed, the bill of lading is signed, and proof of delivery reaches you promptly.

Services We Arrange

Liftgate service

A hydraulic platform on the back of the truck that lowers freight to ground level. Required anywhere there’s no loading dock or forklift: residences, small businesses, retail storefronts, construction sites, and self-storage facilities. Request it when you quote so the right truck is dispatched the first time.

Box truck and straight truck delivery

Smaller trucks for locations a 53-foot tractor trailer physically cannot reach. Narrow residential streets, tight urban alleys, low-clearance parking structures, and older commercial districts with limited turning room all call for a box truck or straight truck rather than a full-size trailer.

White glove delivery

Full-service handling beyond dropping the freight at the door. The crew brings the shipment inside, places it in the room you specify, unpacks and assembles where required, and removes the packaging and debris. Standard for furniture, medical and lab equipment, fitness equipment, appliances, high-end retail, and anything a receiver can’t handle on their own.

Inside delivery

The driver moves freight past the threshold and into the building rather than leaving it at the curb or dock. A step below white glove, and often all that’s needed for offices, retail, and small businesses without material handling equipment.

Oversized and over-dimensional freight

Loads that exceed legal limits for length, width, height, or weight. We arrange the right open-deck equipment, secure state permits, coordinate pilot cars and escorts where required, and plan routes around bridges, weight-restricted roads, and low clearances.

Flatbed and open deck

Flatbed, step deck, double drop, and lowboy trailers for freight that loads from the side or overhead, or that’s too tall for a standard trailer: steel, lumber, building materials, machinery, and equipment.

Temperature-controlled freight

Refrigerated and frozen transport for food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, flowers, and other climate-sensitive commodities, with temperature settings confirmed before dispatch.

Hazardous materials

Placarded freight moved by carriers with hazmat endorsements and the correct insurance for the classification. Send us the UN number, class, and packing group when you request a quote.

Residential and limited access delivery

Deliveries to homes, farms, ranches, schools, churches, military bases, prisons, mines, and construction sites. These locations carry access restrictions and accessorial charges that we account for upfront rather than after the fact.

Final mile delivery

The last leg from a distribution center or warehouse to the end customer’s door, with scheduled appointment windows, notification calls, and threshold or room-of-choice placement.

Appointment scheduling and notification

Coordination with receivers who require scheduled delivery windows, advance notice, or check-in procedures. We handle the calls so your customer isn’t chasing a driver.

Drop trailer and dedicated equipment

A trailer spotted at your facility for loading on your schedule, or dedicated equipment assigned to a recurring lane.
