Less-than-truckload, or LTL, means several customers share space on the same trailer. Your pallets are picked up locally, brought to a terminal, sorted with other freight moving the same direction, carried on a line-haul truck, and delivered by a driver at the destination city.
Because the cost of the truck is split across everyone on board, LTL is the most economical way to move a few pallets over long distances. The tradeoff is more handling and longer transit than a dedicated truck, since your freight passes through terminals along the route.
You don’t need a large shipment to use LTL. A single pallet is a perfectly normal load, and most LTL freight runs between one and six pallets or roughly 150 to 15,000 pounds.
1. Share your shipment details. Tell us the pickup and delivery locations, commodity, weight, dimensions, and pallet count. Note whether either location needs a liftgate, is residential, or has limited access, since those affect both the rate and the equipment we send.
2. We classify and quote. We determine the correct freight class, compare rates across carriers on your lane, and send you an all-in price with any accessorials listed upfront. Getting class right the first time is what keeps a corrected invoice from showing up weeks later.
3. Book and prepare. We schedule the pickup and provide your bill of lading. Palletize and shrink-wrap your freight and label every piece clearly. LTL freight is handled several times, and solid packaging is the best protection against damage.
4. Pickup and line haul. The carrier collects your freight and moves it through the terminal network toward the destination.
5. Tracking and updates. You receive a live tracking link plus status updates as your shipment moves through each terminal, so you always know where it stands.
6. Delivery and paperwork. The load is delivered, the bill of lading is signed, and proof of delivery is sent to you promptly.
